TC Youth Participation Lab Erasmus+ in Latvia

The Youth Participation Lab Erasmus+ training course for youth workers took place from 20 May to 28 May in Saraiķi, Liepaja, Latvia. This course gathered 20 participants from five different countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Poland and Bulgaria. Süeda Emir, a European Solidarity Corps Volunteer with the Podobri  Foundation, joined the course with the Bulgarian team—the training aimed to enhance youth workers’ skills and knowledge in policy making.

How did TC affect your knowledge?

In the training course I gained extensive knowledge about local youth policy, delving into the history of youth work in Europe and exploring various youth participation structures with the youth policy expert Marius Ulozas. I learned effective solutions for involving young people in policy planning, ensuring that youth voices are heard and considered in decision-making. This comprehensive understanding equips me to foster meaningful youth participation in communities.

During the course, we visited local youth spaces and met youngsters, explored the beautiful Liepaja, and prepared for research about family and relationships in Liepaja using basic research tools.

What insights did you gain from visiting local youth spaces and interacting with youngsters in Liepaja?

Meeting 25 enthusiastic youngsters for an interview in Liepaja, Latvia was a cool and enlightening experience. They eagerly answered a series of questions related to the research topic of family and relationships. After conducting the research, we meticulously collected all their responses, which provided us with valuable insights. Finally, we compiled this data into a comprehensive yet simple presentation to showcase what we learned, highlighting the unique perspectives and experiences shared by these young individuals.

What aspects of the training course and interaction with participants from various countries made your experience in Liepaja memorable?

The best parts of my experience were the training course and the cool participants I met. With people from five different countries, it was a fantastic opportunity to speak English, make friends, and have fun in beautiful Liepaja. I loved discovering the city and interacting with the locals. I already miss the people I met and the common purpose that brought us all together.

For this course, to which the Podobri Foundation sent 4 participants, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the organizers and facilitators for curating an enriching training course, not only in terms of knowledge but also in terms of friendships with peers from different corners of the world.
